One of the most highly respected metrology services and precision weighing companies in the industry, Rice Lake Weighing Systems serves customers worldwide from its Concord, California metrology lab and specializes in a variety of calibration services including calibration weights and instruments for measuring mass, temperature, force, dimensions, physical measurements, pressure and volume.

About Our Lab

Our state-of-the-art metrology lab applies carefully designed calibration methods and equipment for the most precise calibrations. Utilizing the most advanced robotic technology, our Concord facility is one of the only laboratories in the world with the capability to calibrate weights from one milligram to 32 kilograms without human handling.

Expert Metrologists

The Concord lab is active in the NIST Western Regional Measurement Assurance Program (WRAP), the National Conference of Standards Laboratories International (NCSL International), the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation. Our metrologists also participate in NIST training, conferences, seminars and other educational opportunities.

Concord Metrology Service Updates October 2023

ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited Calibration Services:

Mass ranging from 1 mg to 3200 lb across ASTM Classes 0 through 7 and OIML Classes E2 through M3.
Instruments for weighing: balances, scales, etc.
Thermometry: LIG, digital, infrared, PRT, thermocouple, etc.
Electrical simulation of thermocouples and indicators.
Hygrometers and humidity instruments.
Dimensional: calipers, micrometers, indicators, and height gages.
Timing devices: timers, stopwatches, etc.
Centrifuges: rotational speed (RPM), time, and temperature.
pH and Conductivity meters.

Discontinued Calibration Services:

Piston Operated Volumetric Apparatus (POVA): pipettes, syringes, diluters, burets, bottle-top dispensers, etc
Volumetric glassware and apparatus: glass pipettes, burets, flasks, etc
Force: force gauges, load cells, tension gauges, dynamometers, proving rings, etc. (However, we will still calibrate firearms-specific force gauges for our forensic services clients)
Pressure gauges
Torque tools: wrenches, devices, and calibrators
Gage blocks, pin gages, rulers, and tape measures

We will continue offering specialty calibration services to our forensic service providers for firearm measurements and trigger-pull devices. Our current field calibration services of weighing instruments (balances, scales, moisture balances, etc.), centrifuges, pH meters, and conductivity meters will continue to be available.

Rice Lake Weighing System’s Concord metrology lab, formerly Heusser Neweigh, was founded in 1906 to provide the mining industry with precision balances. Within a few years, Heusser Neweigh balances had traveled world-wide and were even used as part of National and International Mass Certification Programs due to their accuracy. Today, the Concord lab continues to provide the most advanced metrology services and precision weighing in the industry.
