The Challenge

An electronic parts manufacturer based in Germany wanted to improve the parts counting process for over 20,000 items. Using counting scales could improve accuracy and efficiency, but because their customers can order any quantity required, they pick variable part counts and are unable to pre-package. Many of their orders include different parts and packages with mixed weights, presenting unique challenges for weight verification.

Additionally, the manufacturer needed to use the counting scales to verify incoming part quantities. This project wouldn’t encompass just one or two workstations; they needed nearly 30 flexible workstations that could be used for order picking and incoming part verification.

The Solution

By implementing Myrias Counting Pro software and new counting scale systems, the manufacturer significantly improved their parts counting process. Myrias was installed at multiple workstations connected to a central parts management database. The workstations can be used both for fulfilling orders and verifying incoming parts, improving material management.

The central parts management database records the inventory for more than 20,000 components with different weights. This ERP system sends periodic updates to the Myrias and counting scale workstations, ensuring operators have accurate information as they’re packing parts kits. Operators use a bar code
scanner or enter a part number to begin counting, and the indicator displays the total pieces counted, packages assembled per operator and more.

The company also asked that Myrias be programmed to request operators reverify reference weights or piece counts for parts on customizable intervals. This electronic parts manufacturer chose to implement 28 Myrias and counting scale systems at one site, but because Myrias is easily scalable, they will be able to quickly add Myrias workstations to multiple facilities.
