In addition to recalibration, all medical scales should undergo regularly scheduled maintenance to prevent equipment failure. Not only does maintenance include checking accuracy with certified calibration weights but it also includes checking the overall appearance of the scale to ensure there are no signs of damage, inspecting the condition of the AC adapter, changing the batteries when the low-level annunciator is indicated on the display and properly cleaning the scale.
